Dodgers Starting Pitching Lacking ‘Consistency’ Since Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the 2024 season with one of the most talented starting rotations on paper, but the group has been plagued by multiple injuries.

In the last month alone, the team lost Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Walker Buehler, who are now sidelined with the likes of Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin and Emmet Sheehan.

Yamamoto’s injury in particular has been difficult to absorb as he had been one of the Dodgers’ best starters this season, whereas Buehler struggled with inconsistency.

The Dodgers have been able to tread water without the aforementioned names, but manager Dave Roberts is hoping to get more consistency from the starting staff, via Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

“Since Yamamoto’s injury, I think it’s been good, not great,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “I think that we’ve had some really, really good ones. And then we’ve had a couple of clunkers. So you know the consistency just hasn’t been there. But it will be.”

Without Yamamoto, Glasnow and Buehler, the Dodgers have relied on a rotation that includes James Paxton, Gavin Stone, Justin Wrobleski and Landon Knack. Bobby Miller was also sent to the Minors after his continued struggles since returning from injury.

While Glasnow is putting up ace-like numbers this season, he was struggling before landing on the IL. Paxton has also been about average, with some impressive starts and some to forget.

Stone has been a pleasant surprise this year, but he is only in his second big league campaign and has begun to look more human recently after a fantastic start to his year.

Dodgers looking for ‘impact’ pitcher

With around two weeks until the trade deadline, the Dodgers are said to be searching for another frontline pitcher to add to their rotation.

A lack of available players can make that difficult, but the team reportedly made an offer for Garrett Crochet, only to be quickly turned down by the Chicago White Sox. The Dodgers have also put Tarik Skubal in their view and would love to get a deal done for the southpaw.
