The Los Angeles Dodgers are the overwhelming favorite to win a third consecutive World Series title in 2026 after bolstering their roster with the additions of Kyle Tucker and Edwin Díaz.
The Dodgers have their deepest roster in quite some time, and manager Dave Roberts went as far as saying it is the most talented group of players in franchise history, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:
“It’s the best team,” Roberts proclaimed before they ever played an official game. “I think this team, as far as the talent, the complete buy-in, this team is (the best) … but like I’ve said every single year, we’ve still got to go out there and play.”
The Dodgers addressed their need for a corner outfielder by signing Tucker to a four-year, $240 million contract during the offseason. His left-handed bat helps balance a lineup that already included former MVP winners Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, as well as All-Stars Will Smith, Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernández.
Díaz gives the Dodgers their first dedicated closer since Kenley Jansen, and he made an immediate impact by recording back-to-back saves during Opening Weekend to help the Dodgers complete a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“One of, if not the best closer in the game. And you can see the anticipation of the fans,” Roberts said.
“Right when Will hit the homer, everyone’s excited, and they knew what else was to come. So it’s good to see Dodgers fans stick around for nine innings. And I love that Timmy Trumpet, and I kind of got my fan hat on a little bit there too. So it was fun. And having him back-to-back days is huge.”

The Dodgers entered the 2026 season with a chance to become the first team in more than a quarter-century to win three consecutive World Series titles. While many around baseball have discussed the possibility, Roberts said the mere thought makes him anxious.
Those nerves are justified as the Dodgers are flirting with a feat that has only been accomplished four other times in MLB history. The only franchises to win at least three World Series titles in a row are the New York Yankees (1936-1939, 1949-1953, 1998-2000) and Oakland Athletics (1972-1974).
