The Los Angeles Dodgers reached the lowest point of their season on Saturday with a 15-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants. It was the team’s third shutout loss of the year, and it also represented their most lopsided defeat of the season.
Entering play Sunday, the Dodgers are in the midst of a disappointing 13-17 stretch, which includes having dropped nine of their last 13 games. The skid comes at a time in which the team is dealing with a slew of injuries, particularly to the pitching staff.
“Yeah, I think so,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said when asked if there is a sense of urgency for the club to prevent things from spiraling out of control. “I think it’s more of getting back to finding a way to win a game.
“It’s been hard, obviously, to build any kind of momentum. Things are going to happen as far as health. That’s part of it. But there’s things we’ve got to do better when things aren’t going well. The execution part of things, that certainly when things aren’t going well, really show themselves.”
The Dodgers have endured rough patches at previous points in Roberts’ tenure as manager that they eventually bounced back from. However, he can’t remember one as lengthy as the team’s current slump.
“This is a long one. This is as long as I can remember. We’re obviously trying to find solutions,” Roberts said. “I like the idea that Tony is going to go tomorrow. But we’ve got Logan Webb who is just as good as anybody out there. We’re going to have to play good baseball.
“As far as level of concern, not concerned overall. It never feels good to lose, certainly over a stretch like this. We’ve just got to focus on playing good baseball. If we do that, it will turn.”
With multiple new players on the Dodgers roster this season, Roberts is looking forward to seeing which players emerge from the team’s recent struggles. “I think we have a really good idea of most guys that we’ve seen, but there are some new faces and they’re getting some opportunities,” he said.
“Whether it’s on the position player side, or a lot of it is on the pitching side. So they’re getting some runway. There’s some talent there, but again, collectively, we just all got to be better and find a way to win games.”

The Giants scoring 15 runs on Saturday was their most in a game against the Dodgers since a 19-3 win on September 14, 2013. Furthermore, L.A.’s 15-0 loss was the largest home shutout in Dodger Stadium history.
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers, 15-0, on September 20, 1898, at New Washington Park.
