Dave Roberts: Blake Treinen Has ‘A Lot In The Tank’ For Dodgers

Blake Treinen is among the Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers looking to bounce back after enduring a difficult 2025 season.

Treinen missed more than three months because of right forearm tightness and was never able to find much of a rhythm after returning in late July.

He finished 2-7 with a 5.40 ERA, 4.75 FIP and 1.84 WHIP in 32 appearances. While Treinen continued to strike out batters at a high rate, he posted the worst walks per nine innings of his career (6.4).

Treinen is now entering his age-37 season, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes he still has plenty to offer out of the bullpen.

“A lot in the tank,” Roberts said of Treinen. “I know that the age is one thing, but for me, it’s what I see and what the ball is doing. And he’s healthy again, he’s throwing the baseball, the ball is coming out really well.

“I don’t care about the age, the body is moving well, he’s still strong. And I saw ‘pen a couple days ago, and a few days ago, and yesterday, it’s as good as I’ve seen for the baseball in a while.”

Roberts never lost faith in Treinen last season, and the skipper believes the right-hander can still be trusted in high-leverage situations.

“Yeah, I think that I certainly trust him,” Roberts said. “It’s going to be high-leverage. How much we lean on him? That’s kind of depending on how he’s feeling and who else we have around him and how they’re throwing the baseball.

“But right now, he’s a full participant. He’s throwing the baseball well, feels good, and we’ll go from there.”

Dodgers bullpen with Blake Treinen

Treinen is expected to be part of a revamped Dodgers bullpen that includes free agent signing Edwin Díaz, Tanner Scott, Alex Vesia, Jack Dreyer and Will Klein, among others.

With Díaz taking over the closer role, Treinen could get plenty of opportunities in the seventh and eighth innings, as well as occasional save chances.
