Colorado Rockies Set Opening Day Roster Vs. Dodgers

The Colorado Rockies officially announced their 26-man Opening Day roster, which is compromised of 14 pitchers and 12 position players.

Prior to finalizing the group, the Rockies signed Jhoulys Chacín and designated Jairo Diaz for assignment. Chacín recently was granted his release from the New York Yankees after spending most of Spring Training with them.

The right-hander pitched for the Rockies from 2009-14 and gives the club some much needed depth in the wake of several injuries.

Kyle Freeland begins the 2021 regular season on the 10-day injured list, while Peter Lambert was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Scott Oberg also was placed on the 60-day IL after recently undergoing surgery to remove blood clots in his right elbow. Moreover, infielder Brendan Rodgers starts the season on the 10-day IL.

The Rockies open the year with a four-man starting rotation. The group consists of Opening Day starter Germán Márquez, followed by Antonio Senzatela, Jon Gray and offseason acquisition Austin Gomber, who came over from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Nolan Arenado trade.

Other new additions include first baseman C.J. Cron, reliever Robert Stephenson and former Dodgers prospect Jordan Sheffield, who was selected in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft.

Of the Rockies’ 26-man Opening Day roster, four players are on it for the first time: Sheffield, Ben Bowden, Yonathan Diaz and Dom Nuñez.
