Cody Bellinger: ‘Felt Amazing’ Hitting Home Run During Dodgers’ Comeback Against Padres

Despite jumping out to an early 4-0 lead, the Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves trailing by four runs as they entered the bottom of the seventh inning during Wednesday’s matchup against the San Diego Padres.

The club immediately got one back when Mookie Betts led off the inning with his 22nd home run of the season. That foreshadowed what was to come as Max Muncy and AJ Pollock hit back-to-back homers to bring L.A. within one run in the eighth.

Cody Bellinger would eventually tie the game with a solo home run before Corey Seager put the Dodgers back on top with a go-ahead two-run blast.

“Really special. Huge momentum shift. That was a crazy inning. Maybe the craziest I’ve been a part of,” Bellinger said after the Dodgers’ 11-9 win.

Bellinger’s home run was his 10th of the season and first since hitting two against the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 11. “It felt amazing. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. It felt amazing,” he said of his game-tying homer.

It’s no secret Bellinger has struggled this season, so to be able to help the Dodgers complete the comeback means the world to him. “Yeah, most definitely,” Bellinger answered when asked if his home run feels more special given how difficult of a season it has been.

“I think it feels pretty sweet whether or not I’ve had a season like that. It’s definitely a good feeling.”

The Dodgers are no stranger to epic comebacks involving multiple home runs, with the most memorable one being the ‘4+1’ game in 2006.

L.A. more recently hit three home runs in the ninth inning to cap off a come from behind victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in April 2017, which Bellinger also was part of.

“I 100% remember that game,” Bellinger recalled. “Very similar, both wild. I remember the one in ’17 really well. I’m blessed to be part of both.”

Bellinger feeling improvement with ribs

Wednesday’s contest against the Padres was Bellinger’s second since returning from an injured list stint for a non-displaced fracture in his left ribs, and to this point, he has not been limited in any way. “It feels pretty good,” Bellinger said.

“It’s very dull. The days off were nice, just had some time to heal it. It was a bone, so it heals by itself. There’s not much you can do. The ribs feel pretty good.”
