Clayton Kershaw Update: Left Shoulder ‘Feels Fine’

Although Clayton Kershaw remains a free agent, there is little suspense as to which team he will sign with. The left-hander has repeatedly made it clear he will re-sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, even joking about losing any semblance of leverage with by making his feelings public.

The veteran left-hander pitched just 30 innings in 2024, compiling a 4.50 ERA, 87 ERA+ and 1.50 WHIP. Kershaw had to shut down his season because of issues with his left knee and left foot/toe.

It was the second consecutive year that Kershaw required offseason surgery, with his left shoulder procedure coming a year prior.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Kershaw’s left shoulder remains in good standing as he rehabs from two other procedures:

He had two surgeries but not on his shoulder, which feels fine.

The Dodgers have a loaded starting rotation group as it stands, but the need for arms always seems to creep into the conversation.

Although there haven’t been many updates with his free agency, the Dodgers are expecting to re-sign Kershaw at some point in the coming months. Kershaw’s 2025 season will be delayed like this year, however, as he recovers from the two surgeries.

Kershaw joining the fold will help the Dodgers as they look to navigate a six-man rotation because of Shohei Ohtani returning to pitching.

Clayton Kershaw only sees the Dodgers as destination

At the Dodgers’ World Series celebration, Kershaw voiced his love for the organization by shouting, “I love you guys. Thank you. Dodger for life!” His words echoed throughout Dodger Stadium as he and the team hoisted the commissioner’s trophy.

In early November, Kershaw made an appearance on “MLB Tonight” and said he intends to spend his entire career with the Dodgers.
