Chase Utley Working In Front Office Role With Dodgers

Chase Utley spent the latter part of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he became a key presence in the clubhouse and helped mentor some of the team’s younger players.

Utley retired at the end of the 2018 season, but initially remained connected to the Dodgers as a special advisor and SportsNet LA analyst.

Utley would then leave the organization in 2022 to become an MLB ambassador to Europe, which required moving his family to London. He has since returned to the United States and recently accepted a new position with the Dodgers as special assistant to the president.

During an appearance on “Dodger Talk” with David Vassegh, Utley described his role and said it gives him the flexibility to continue being around his family, via AM 570 L.A. Sports:

“I’m still trying to feel it out. I have a young family that I enjoy being around and enjoy spending time with. So right now, I’m happy with what we’re doing, which is spending some time with the Dodgers, the front office, and their players, but also have some time for my family. So right now, we’re in a good spot.”

Utley was a popular teammate during his brief time with the Dodgers so it isn’t surprising that he has found his way back to the organization.

He will likely make occasional appearances at Dodger Stadium and could potentially return to Camelback Ranch as a guest instructor in Spring Training as well.

Kiké Hernández, Gavin Lux, Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Trayce Thompson are among those who have praised Utley over the years for leaving a lasting impact on their respective careers.

Chase Utley’s career with Dodgers

In parts of four seasons with the Dodgers, Utley hit .236/.315/.381 with 65 doubles, 26 home runs and 109 RBI in 386 games. He helped L.A. get to the World Series in back-to-back years from 2017-2018, but the team fell short on both occasions.
