The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their 2024 World Series victory over the New York Yankees, are poised to continue their reign as baseball’s powerhouse. With odds of -300 to win the National League West and +400 to clinch the 2025 World Series, according to the best casino sites, the Dodgers are the clear favorites heading into the new season. ESPN has them first, according to their early 2025 MLB power rankings.

This dominance was exemplified by their hard-fought 2024 campaign, which saw the super signing of Shohei Ohtani on a 10-year $700 million contract pay immediate dividends. Ohtani lived up to the hype, smashing 54 home runs, driving in 130 runs, and stealing 59 bases en route to claiming the MVP Award.

As the Dodgers gear up for 2025, they face challenges and opportunities. While they’ve lost pitcher Gavin Stone for the season due to injury, the team expects the return of Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May to bolster their pitching staff. These developments, coupled with significant offseason moves, have set the stage for what promises to be another exciting year for the boys in blue.

Recent Developments

Blake Snell’s Signing

One of the most notable moves this offseason was the signing of pitcher Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract. Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, expressed that joining the Dodgers was an “easy decision,” citing his desire to live in Los Angeles and the team’s competitive prospects. His addition is expected to bolster a strong rotation that includes Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow. However, Snell’s history of durability concerns raises questions about his ability to pitch deep into games consistently.

Pursuit of Teoscar Hernández

The Dodgers are also actively pursuing the re-signing of Teoscar Hernández, who had a successful stint last season. Despite Hernández’s desire to remain in Los Angeles, negotiations have reportedly stalled due to disagreements over contract terms, particularly regarding average annual value and signing bonuses.

Gavin Stone’s Injury

Right-hander Gavin Stone will miss the entire 2025 season following shoulder surgery in a significant blow to their pitching depth. Stone had emerged as a reliable option during 2024 but will now be sidelined as he recovers from this major procedure. His absence adds urgency to the Dodgers’ need for additional pitching depth as they head into the new season.

Jack Flaherty’s Departure

The Dodgers have decided not to bring back pitcher Jack Flaherty, who had a mixed performance during his time with the team. With Flaherty expected to command a substantial multi-year contract on the free-agent market, and given their recent acquisition of Snell, it appears that Los Angeles is shifting its focus towards other pitching options for 2025.

Outlook for 2025

The Dodgers remain a formidable force in Major League Baseball, bolstered by their high-profile signings and a strong roster. Their favorable odds reflect their status as heavy favorites in their division and the league.

With an impressive lineup that includes Ohtani and possibly Hernández if negotiations succeed, alongside a revamped pitching staff featuring Snell and the returning Gonsolin and May, the Dodgers are well-positioned for another successful season. Yet, their ability to overcome setbacks like Stone’s injury and secure key players will be crucial in their quest for continued dominance in 2025.
