California Approves Limited Attendance For Dodgers Fans At Dodger Stadium

The California Department of Public Health provided clearance for Los Angeles Dodgers fans to attend games at Dodger Stadium by Opening Day of the 2021 regular season, albeit in a reduced capacity.

“On behalf of the Dodger organization and its fans, we want to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Governor Newsom, his staff and the many others who have worked tirelessly on these revised guidelines which provide a blueprint for California outdoor sports venues to re-open to fans,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement.

“Like the Governor, we’re optimistic that California will continue to make progress in the fight against COVID-19 and that we can safely host fans to start the season. Safety is paramount, and the Dodgers continue to work with local officials and Major League Baseball to finalize protocols to protect players, fans and staff.”

The Dodgers begin the regular season on the road and don’t have their home opener until April 9. At present time, L.A. County is recording 9.6 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases per 100,000 residents, which amounts to being in the purple tier.

However, if L.A. County is able to land in the red tier (four to seven new cases per 100,000), the Dodgers would be permitted to sell concessions and have 20% capacity of Dodger Stadium — 11,200 tickets.

The Dodgers intend to announce announce health and safety protocols for fans as well as a Dodger Stadium ticket policy for reduced capacity in the coming days.

Dodgers Spring protocols

While the Dodgers went the entire 2020 regular season playing in front of only cardboard cutouts and piped-in noise, that changed for the National League Championship Series and World Series at Globe Life Field in Texas.

It has also carried over into Spring Training, though stadiums only sold tickets for a reduced capacity. Camelback Ranch is operating at 18% of full capacity (2,400 fans) and also implemented a wide range of health and safety protocols.
