Brewers Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Gavin Lux Scratched From Lineup

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to bounce back against the Milwaukee Brewers one night after being shut out at Dodger Stadium for the first time this season.

After scoring a combined 19 runs in their previous series with the Miami Marlins, the Dodgers squandered multiple opportunities with runners on base in a 4-0 loss to the Brewers. Two clubs that highly value pitching continue that trend with a marquee matchup between Tony Gonsolin and Corbin Burnes.

Tony Gonsolin gets the ball for his 23rd start of the season and holds a National League-leading 2.12 ERA. With a record of 15-1 and 3.34 FIP, Gonsolin has been the ace of the Dodgers staff for much of the 2022 season.

Gonsolin endured a rough stretch of starts in July in which he allowed 12 earned runs over 16 innings pitched, but bounced back and has been much of what earned him his first-career All-Star Game selection.

In his last three outings, Gonsolin is 3-0 with a 0.48 ERA and has allowed one earned run in 18.2 innings pitched during that span. Included in the stretch was seven shutout innings on the road against the Brewers last week. Gonsolin’s start on Tuesday comes with an extra day of rest.

The Brewers counter with the reigning Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, who was knocked out of his last start against the Dodgers after 5.2 innings and three runs allowed.

Burnes is once again having a strong season and holds a 9-5 record with a 2.48 ERA, a 3.01 FIP and an NL-best 187 strikeouts over 148.2 innings. On the road this year, he’s fared much better with a 1.94 ERA away from American Family Field.

In his career against the Dodgers, Burnes is 2-1 with an 8.16 ERA in 14.1 innings.

Gavin Lux was scratched from the Dodgers lineup due to a minor neck injury. Chris Taylor is now starting at second base and Trayce Thompson is the designated hitter.
