The Los Angeles Dodgers needed contributions from several players en route to winning the 2024 World Series, and Brent Honeywell was identified by many as an unsung hero.
Honeywell joined the Dodgers last July when he was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was designated for assignment one month later but remained with the organization after clearing waivers and accepted being sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
That proved to be wise as Honeywell was added onto the Dodgers’ playoff roster for the National League Championship Series and World Series. While 2024 ended in triumph for Honeywell and the Dodgers, he’s currently a free agent.
That gave Honeywell an opportunity to visit with his former teammates at Globe Life Field, where he received his 2024 Dodgers World Series ring and MLB gold program jersey.
Dave Roberts said #Dodgers surprised Honeywell with his World Series ring. “He got choked up.”

Honeywell went 1-1 with a 2.62 ERA, 4.27 FIP and 1.10 WHIP in 18 games (one start) for the Dodgers during the regular season.
He pitched three scoreless innings against the New York Mets in Game 2 of the NLCS, but then allowed four runs in Game 4. Honeywell also struggled in his lone World Series appearance, when he gave up five runs to the New York Yankees in just one inning of work during Game 4.
But Honeywell’s importance and contributions were in soaking up innings for a heavily-leaned upon bullpen, and perhaps more importantly, in assisting Mookie Betts with avoiding another postseason drought.
Honeywell was not on the Dodgers’ roster for the NL Division Series, but he was among the pitchers to keep active during their bye week and off days between games against the San Diego Padres.
One of those instances was at Petco Park, when Honeywell grooved pitches to Betts the night before Game 3. The Dodgers lost 6-5, but Betts had multiple hits, including a home run.
Betts had another homer and multi-hit performance in Game 4 as the Dodgers staved off elimination and eventually took the series.
During the NLCS, Betts hit .346/.452/.731 with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI. He likely would’ve won the NLCS MVP Award if not for a remarkable performance by Tommy Edman.
Brent Honeywell responds to Nestor Cortes Jr.
Despite the Yankees losing to the Dodgers in just five games, Nestor Cortes Jr. claimed they were the better team and merely had a few bad breaks go against them.
That drew a response from Honeywell, who strongly disagreed with Cortes stating the Dodgers were not as good as the Yankees.
