Looking to turn the page from a disappointing series loss to the Colorado Rockies, the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their homestand with the opener of a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves.
Despite dropping two of three to the Rockies over the weekend, the Dodgers remain just 2.5 games out of first place in the National League West standings due to the San Francisco Giants also losing their series against the Braves.
Julio Urias gets the start Monday and looks to build on an efficient start against the San Diego Padres. The left-hander, in his first appearance off the 10-day injured list, allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings and collected four strikeouts.
Urias improved to 14-3 and now brings with him into his start a solid 3.17 ERA, 3.34 FIP and 1.05 WHIP in 144.2 innings across 25 games this season. He previously faced the Braves on June 4 and helped the Dodgers win their only game in three tries at Truist Park.
Urias yielded one run on four hits in five innings of work and notched five strikeouts against two walks. It was his first game against the Braves since tossing three perfect innings to cap off the Dodgers’ 4-3 win in Game 7 of the 2020 NL Championship Series.
Atlanta counters with Drew Smyly, who has allowed three earned runs in four of his last five appearances dating back to July 29. He enters at 9-3 with a 4.54 ERA, 5.04 FIP and 1.36 WHIP in 111 innings across 22 starts this year.
Smyly hasn’t faced the Dodgers this season but owns a 2.19 ERA and 1.14 WHIP against them in four career appearances.
