Blake Treinen ‘Fine’ After Being Hit In Head By Ball During Batting Practice

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a scare on Saturday when Blake Treinen was struck in the head by a ball while the Colorado Rockies took swings during batting practice at Coors Field.

Treinen provided an update on his condition after the Dodgers’ 4-3 loss and said he has been cleared of a potential concussion, via Mirjam Swanson of the L.A. Times:

Blake Treinen isn’t sure how he got hit, standing where he was in the Dodgers bullpen before the game— but he was struck in the head by a batted ball during Rockies batting practice.

He got checked out, and is fine, he says. Symptom-free.

Treinen also shared that he was available to pitch for the Dodgers and, at one point during Saturday’s game, he was warming up in the bullpen.

The right-hander is in the midst of a bounce-back season as he has not allowed a run over his first eight appearances. He has given up just three hits in 6.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts against three walks.

“A lot in the tank,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of his expectations for Treinen before the start of the 2026 season. “I know that the age is one thing, but for me, it’s what I see and what the ball is doing. And he’s healthy again, he’s throwing the baseball, the ball is coming out really well.

“I don’t care about the age, the body is moving well, he’s still strong. And I saw ‘pen a couple days ago, and a few days ago, and yesterday, it’s as good as I’ve seen for the baseball in a while.”

Will Dodgers make roster move involving Blake Treinen?

It appears unlikely that Treinen will need a stint on the seven-day concussion injured list after being cleared of a potential head injury by the Dodgers’ medical staff.

However, the team did make a roster move on Sunday as Ryan Ward was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace Freddie Freeman. The nine-time All-Star was placed on the paternity list due to he and his wife, Chelsea, expecting their fourth child.

Ward joins the Dodgers after another strong start with the Comets. He’s hitting .324/.432/.588 with six doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI over 18 games thus far.

Ward is making his MLB debut against the Rockies on Sunday, batting seventh in the Dodgers lineup and playing first base.
