Blake Snell and Brock Stewart continue to progress in their respective returns to the Los Angeles Dodgers after beginning the season on the 15-day injured list.
Stewart has made three rehab appearances, the first two with the Single-A Ontario Tower Buzzers before moving up to Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets on Tuesday. Snell made his first rehab start on Wednesday, which was with the Tower Buzzers.
The Dodgers have been cautious with both of them, but they now look forward to their returns, given the injuries and inconsistency of their pitching staff.
Blake Snell’s first rehab start
Snell’s first rehab start showed the veteran pitcher has a lot of rust to shake off, as expected, given he hasn’t pitched in a game since the 2025 World Series. Snell pitched one-plus innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with one walk. He did not pick up a strikeout.
Snell threw 32 total pitches, 21 of which were strikes.
The left-hander allowed a leadoff single and walked the second batter before getting a double play and a pop-up to end his first inning. When he went back out for the second inning, the leadoff hitter reached on an error and stole second base, and then Snell allowed a double and a single that put the Tower Buzzers behind 2-0.
The final batter he faced reached on a fielder’s choice, and then Snell was replaced before getting an out in the second.
The good news is Snell came out of the start with no lingering issues. He is expected to make at least four starts before returning to the Dodgers.
Brock Stewart advances rehab assignment
After throwing two innings in two games with the Tower Buzzers, Stewart made his first rehab outing with the Comets on Tuesday.
He pitched one perfect inning with two strikeouts. He started his outing by getting a groundout before striking out the next two hitters.
Stewart has now thrown 2.2 innings on his rehab stint between the two levels, allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts, no walks, and one hit batter.
The expectation was that he would need about three weeks on his rehab assignment before returning to the Dodgers. He is currently in his second week, having started on April 14.
