As Opening Day of the 2020 Major League Baseball season remains indefinitely delayed, MLB.TV made every game from 2018 and 2019 available to stream for free. With that, DodgerBlue.com ranked the best Los Angeles Dodgers games from those two seasons.
The list continues with the No. 6 game from 2019, when Matt Beaty started a historic weekend against the Colorado Rockies. With the score tied at two in the bottom of the ninth inning, Rockies reliever Jairo Diaz quickly retired the first two batters faced.
Max Muncy kept the inning alive with a two-out walk, paving the way for Beaty’s heroics. On a 1-0 pitch, he lined walk-off home run over the center field wall, propelling the Dodgers to a 4-2 victory.
Beaty finished the night with two hits in four at-bats, improving his batting average to an even .300 on the year. The walk-off was Beaty’s first of his career and the Dodgers’ fourth of the season.
That number quickly rose however, as Alex Verdugo clubbed a game-winning home run in the 11th inning the following night. Beaty and Verdugo made MLB history by becoming the first pair of rookies to hit a walk-off home run in consecutive games.
Then in the series finale, hours after Will Smith had been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City, he got just enough of a pitch off the handle of the bat and lifted an opposite-field pinch-hit home run.
Beaty, Verdugo and Smith marked the first time in MLB history that three different rookies hit walk-off home runs in three consecutive games. L.A. finished the season with 12 walk-off wins.
