In addition to his superb work on the field, Cody Bellinger was a key contributor at the plate for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2019 season. He set career highs across the board and earned plenty of hardware for his efforts, including a Silver Slugger Award and National League MVP honors.
Bellinger hit an overall .305/.406/.629 with 34 doubles, 47 home runs and 115 RBI across 661 plate appearances, drawing 95 walks and leading all of baseball with 351 total bases.
In a year that was full of highlights and memorable moments, DodgerBlue.com has ranked Bellinger’s best plays from his MVP season. The list continues at No. 3, when Bellinger produced game-winning plate appearances on back-to-back nights against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the form of a walk-off walk and home run.
Looking to overcome a 4-3 deficit in the ninth inning, the Dodgers were tasked with solving then-Diamondbacks closer Greg Holland. He promptly recorded the first two outs of the frame but then lost control of his pitches.

Holland issued four consecutive walks to Chris Taylor, Russell Martin, Alex Verdugo and Matt Beaty, allowing L.A. to even up the score at four apiece. The right-hander was then pulled from the game in favor of T.J. McFarland.
McFarland looked to clean up the mess but ultimately suffered the same fate as Holland, walking Bellinger to force home the game-winning run. The 24-year-old finished his night with a double and walk in five plate appearances.
Bellinger once again played hero for the Dodgers the following night, hitting a walk-off home run against Yoan Lopez in the bottom of the 10th. It was L.A.’s franchise-record fifth consecutive game with a walk-off victory, becoming only the fifth team since 1920 to accomplish the feat.
Bellinger for the night hit two home runs, bringing his total to 29 on the season. With the 5-4 victory, the Dodgers extended their winning streak to three and improved to 59-29 on the year.
