Baseball America Names Dodgers 2020 MLB Organization Of The Year

The Los Angeles Dodgers were named the 2020 Major League Baseball Organization of the Year by Baseball America, which annually has selected one club to recognize since 1982.

The decision does not come as much of a surprise after the Dodgers finished with the best record in baseball at 43-17 during the shortened 2020 season and then went on to win the organization’s first World Series since 1988.

After being eliminated by the Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series in 2019, Dodgers president baseball operations Andrew Friedman made it clear that improvements needed to be made to the roster.

He went out and did exactly that last offseason, acquiring one of the best players in baseball in Mookie Betts as well as bolstering his bullpen with additions of Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol and eventually Alex Wood.

Betts’ first season with the Dodgers was special as he finished second in the NL MVP voting behind Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, while taking home both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger.

Despite having the best record in baseball, the Dodgers still needed to play a Wild Card Series due to MLB’s expanded postseason in 2020. They took care of business by sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers and then did the same to the San Diego Padres in the NLDS.

The Dodgers first faced adversity in the NL Championship Series when they fell down 3-1 to the Braves. They won the final three games of the series to advance to the World Series and eventually went on to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in six games to clinch the championship.

Muncy believes 2020 Dodgers would have set records in normal season

With the 2020 season being shortened to just 60 games because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Dodgers unfortunately will not go down in any record books. Max Muncy believes they would have if the season was a full 162 games though, and the numbers certainly back that up.

The Dodgers’ 43 wins put them on pace to win 116 in a normal year, which would have tied with the 2001 Seattle Mariners for the most in MLB history. L.A. did break one record in 2020, slugging 57 home runs in the month of August, which is the most ever in a month for an NL team.
