The Los Angeles Dodgers can go a multitude of ways at the trade deadline this year, ranging from making a big addition in the form of Tarik Skubal to perhaps addressing their roster or organizational depth on the margins.
In several of the scenarios, the Dodgers may be included to take from an impressive collection of outfield prospects. It’s a reality president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman acknowledged during an interview with Rowan Kavner of Fox Sports.
“This is far and away the deepest, most impressive group of outfielders I’ve ever seen,” Friedman told me. “Fortunately, right now it’s in Low-A, High-A, Double-A and Triple-A, so there hasn’t been any real friction yet. But, it’s coming. And whether that’s this July or this offseason, there’s going to be a time where we’re going to need to redistribute that a little bit.”
Regardless of publication, any ranking of the top Dodgers prospects in 2026 features the likes of Josue De Paula, Mike Sirota, Eduardo Quintero, Zyhir Hope, Charles Davalan, James Tibbs III and Kendall George. There’s also Ryan Ward, who’s made his MLB debut but seemingly doesn’t project to have much of a role with the Dodgers.
From the aforementioned group, only Tibbs and Ward are at the Triple-A level. So too is Zach Ehrhard, who ranks further down the list when compared to other Dodgers prospects.
Andrew Friedman not ruling out blockbuster trade
While speaking with media at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, Friedman did not rule out the Dodgers potentially acquiring a star player before the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline.
“Feel really good about the talent base we have in place,” Friedman said. “Not just on the field, but also how the group meshes together. So like always, we’re going to be thoughtful and careful about what we potentially add to that dynamic. On one hand, we’re always of the mind of trying to do everything we can to put ourselves in the best position to win.
“Sometimes we’re fortunate enough to line up on things, sometimes not. But I think always, while being mindful of our group, the dynamic, where we’re at, and also at least the last couple years of trying to make a really concerted effort to be really aggressive in the offseason to avoid having an acute need in July.
“Because when you have an acute need, it’s really challenging because you’re paying 150 cents, 200 cents on the dollar. So we try to do everything we can to avoid having to do something. But when you’re able to, you know, be in a position to be a little bit more selective and opportunistic about what potentially is available, it just puts you in a better position. So, as much flexibility as we can have, the better.”
Friedman then played coy when asked about the likelihood of the Dodgers completing a blockbuster trade.
“I don’t know. I’m not in the handicapping business,” he quipped.
