Andrew Friedman: Dodgers Still Talking With Free Agents

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to load up this offseason by adding top free agents Kyle Tucker and Edwin Díaz to what was already one of the deepest rosters in baseball.

The Dodgers now look like a force to be reckoned with as they go for a third consecutive World Series title in 2026, which immediately became the goal after they outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games.

Barring a surprise trade or signing, the Dodgers roster appears to be mostly set ahead of the start of Spring Training at Camelback Ranch this week.

However, the team could still look to make a few smaller moves to improve their depth, and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman recently noted they are in talks with several free agents, via the “Dodgers Territory” show:

“We’re still having conversations on a few different fronts. For us, it’s about putting the best team we can together, not just as we break in April, but what it could potentially look like in October. And from our standpoint, we talked about it a lot last year, we want to do everything we can to stay out of the buy-side market in July. Prices are 150, 200, 250% more at that time, so just trying to get in front of it as much as we can. So we are viewing moves through that lens, and continuing to have conversations about bringing back guys who can help us win a championship in 2026.”

Although they haven’t been linked to anyone in particular as of late, Kiké Hernández and Evan Phillips are two players the Dodgers could look to bring back.

Hernández suggested in December that he expects to re-sign with the Dodgers, even if it happens later down the road, such as last season when he finalized a new contract just as Spring Training began.

Hernández underwent left elbow surgery at the start of the offseason and will be sidelined to begin the 2026 campaign, so there is no rush for either side to get a deal done.

As for Phillips, he was limited to seven games last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. He was non-tendered by the Dodgers at the start of the offseason, but Friedman said the team could still re-sign him, and that is something Tanner Scott also wants to see come to fruition.

It also benefits the Dodgers to wait on signing both of them until Spring Training begins as they can then officially move players to the 60-day injured list, which would open up additional roster space.

Andrew Friedman: Agents reaching out to Dodgers about players’ interest

Tucker reportedly turned down lucrative offers from other interested teams to sign with the Dodgers, which has been a common theme recently.

Friedman said earlier this offseason that agents have been reaching out to him about players’ interest in joining the team.
