Andrew Friedman: Postseason Was ‘Big Factor’ For Dodgers Re-Signing Kiké Hernández

The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed Kiké Hernández for the 2025 season due in part to his playoff success and leadership on the field come October.

The utility man struggled during the regular season but has taken on a larger role in the postseason as the team’s starting left fielder.

Through 12 games, Hernández is batting .273/.333/.364 with four doubles and five RBI in 48 plate appearances. The 34-year-old has delivered several clutch hits for the Dodgers and continues to make an impact with his positive presence.

“I think we’ve all seen the level of focus and energy that Kiké brings, especially in October,” president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.

“Big factor in wanting to bring him back this offseason. That being said, you never know how a season is going to play out and what things are going to look like. But he’s had a good little run here lately and feels like his swing’s in a better spot.

“And his ability to kind of slow things down and take what the pitcher gives and then also add really good defense on top of it is something we felt really comfortable betting on.”

Friedman has praised Hernández on several occasions for the leadership he provides to the Dodgers. He’s now part of the team being just three wins away from winning what would be Hernández’s third World Series championship with the Dodgers.

Kiké Hernández breaks Dodgers postseason record

Hernández played his 87th career postseason game with the Dodgers on Saturday, surpassing Justin Turner for the most in franchise history.

Hernández has spent parts of nine seasons with the Dodgers. In that time, he has been with the Dodgers for all five of their World Series appearances in the last nine seasons.
