Andrew Friedman: Dodgers ‘Looking Forward’ To Playing Diamondbacks In NLDS

The Los Angeles Dodgers learned Wednesday that they will be facing the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series, which begins Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

The Diamondbacks advanced to a showdown with their NL West foe after sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series. “Obviously really familiar with them,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said of the matchup.

“They’re a really good team and we have a lot of history with them. We know them well, they know us well, and we’re looking forward to.”

Prior to this year, the only postseason history between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks came in the 2017 NLDS. L.A. swept Arizona en route to making the first of two consecutive World Series appearances.

The Dodgers won eight of 13 head-to-head meetings against the Diamondbacks this season and outscored them 72-47.

The first two games of the NLDS will be played at Dodger Stadium before the best-of-five shifts to Chase Field for Game 3, and if necessary, Game 4. If the teams are still tied through that point, the NLDS would return to Dodger Stadium for a winner-take-all Game 5 on Saturday, October 14.

Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller are due to start the first two games of the NLDS. The rest of the Dodgers rotation order has not been set.

Andrew Friedman: ‘Really talented pitchers’ won’t make Dodgers NLDS roster

Beyond a Game 3 starter, the Dodgers have not yet determined whether they will carry 12 or 13 pitchers on their NLDS roster. “We’re still having a lot of internal conversations about it,” Friedman said.

“I think no matter how it shakes out, we’re going to have a really talented pitching staff. There’s going to be tough decisions and probably some really talented pitchers won’t make this roster.

“And I think it just speaks to the depth, the number of guys who really stepped up this year. We’ve talked about this in the past, we may have to approach it in a more unconventional way, but the arm talent and the depth that we have, we feel really good about.”
