Alex Wood Impressed With Dodgers For Earning Win Over Rockies In Spite Of His Poor Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to earn their first sweep over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field since 2010 on Sunday, although things did not get off to a good start.

Alex Wood had his worst start of the season, giving up five hits and six runs in just two innings of work. He walked three, struck out two, and exited with the Dodgers trailing 6-1.

As has been the case in recent weeks, the team’s offense fought back and the bullpen held the Rockies at bay. The end result was the Dodgers earning a 10-7 comeback victory to complete the sweep.

After the game, Wood was impressed with his teammates for picking him up and earning a win despite the poor outing, via Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

“To win in spite of that start I had today was pretty impressive,” Wood said.

Wood did not look sharp from the first pitch he threw, which could be attributed to his start being pushed back due to cramp concerns. He had not pitched in eight days going into this start.

Wood was removed after two innings and 61 pitches solely because of ineffectiveness as it was not due to any health concerns, which is one positive to take away from an otherwise poor outing.

Wood is the only one of the five starters that began the season in the rotation that isn’t currently on the disabled list, so he will have to pitch better if the team wants to have success moving forward.

The Dodgers offense and bullpen came up big all series, particularly late in games. Los Angeles outscored the Rockies 21-3 from the sixth inning on in the three-game series.
