The long-anticipated National League Division Series matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets was made official Tuesday night when the Dodgers clinched the NL West with a win over the San Francisco Giants.
Clayton Kershaw had 13 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout effort to help Los Angeles secure a third consecutive division title for the first time in their storied history. Shortly after the Dodgers’ win, the LA Metro Twitter account put New York Metro on notice:
Hey @MTA please tidy up the 7 train, @Dodgers blue is coming to town. #lolmets @Mets
— Metro (@metrolosangeles) September 30, 2015
It didn’t take long for New York Metro to respond, with a series prediction included:
Don’t worry, @MetroLosAngeles – we sweep our subway just like the @Mets will sweep the @Dodgers
— MTA (@MTA) September 30, 2015
That escalated to LA Metro involving the video that went viral of a rat carrying a slice of piece down a set of stairs in a subway station:
A friendly wager, @MTA? Perhaps your famous New York pizza. #Dodgers #LolMets pic.twitter.com/5g1vpMBuZF
— Metro (@metrolosangeles) September 30, 2015
Dodgers’ fans lax attitude in making their way to Dodger Stadium was then called into question:
.@metrolosangeles Happy to wager on who wins the series. Care to wager on who gets more fans to the ballpark?
— MTA (@MTA) September 30, 2015
The exchange came to somewhat of an awkward conclusion with NY Metro taking exception to LA Metro drawing attention to a dangerous act:
You got us on the numbers, @MTA. Assuming your riders remember how transit works. pic.twitter.com/rpYc9JjGNZ
— Metro (@metrolosangeles) September 30, 2015
.@metrolosangeles shld know better than to glorify unsafe acts. We just want to collect on the bet. NYers, what LA food should they put up?

The NLDS is scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 9. Where Game 1 between the Dodgers and Mets will be played is still to be determined as the teams are jostling for home-field advantage heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
The Dodgers and Mets are tied in the standings entering play Friday, though New York holds the tiebreaker as they won the season series.
