With rookie center fielder Joc Pederson now making headlines for the Los Angeles Dodgers, shortstop Corey Seager and pitcher Julio Urias remain the prospects garnering the majority of attention in the club’s Minor League system.

The duo were among non-roster invites to Spring Training this year, and each had their bright moments before beginning the season with Double-A Tulsa.

One week after Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friemdan said he doesn’t expect Seager to remain at Double-A level for the entirety of the season, the 21-year-old prospect is on the move.

According to Bill Plunkett of the OC Register, Seager is getting promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City:

#Dodgers are promoting blue chip prospect Corey Seager to Triple A OKC. Hit .372 with 1.039 OPS in 19 games at Double A Tulsa this year

Seager is batting .372/.398/.641 with four home runs, seven doubles and 14 RBIs through 19 games with the Drillers. He reached the Double-A level last season, at the time the Dodgers’ affiliate was in Chattanooga, and hit .345/.381/.534 after having great success with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

During his time with the Dodgers in Spring Training, manager Don Mattingly compared Seager to Hall of Fame shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. — although he did so with some hesitation, Mattingly sees similarities given Seager’s 6’4 frame.

While many have projected Seager will eventually need to transition to third base once in the Majors, Friedman has previously stated he’s yet to see anything to suggest a move is necessary. This will mark Seager’s first time advancing past Double-A in his career.

The Dodgers selected the shortstop out of Northwest Cabarrus High School in North Carolina with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2012 draft.
