Amid reports of the trade between the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers for closer Aroldis Chapman appearing to have hit a snag, the Dodgers announced Danny Reynolds was claimed off waivers.
Reynolds was taken in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
He spent last season with Double-A Arkansas, going 2-3 with 10 saves, a 4.57 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.
Reynolds collected 50 strikeouts over 43.1 innings pitched (43 relief appearances) and held opponents to a .213 batting average.
The right-hander was a Double-A Texas League All-Star in 2014. That season Reynolds had a 3.60 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 30 appearances for the Travelers.
In six career Minor-League seasons, Reynolds is 22-23 with 21 saves, 4.39 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 315 strikeouts over 370.2 innings (152 games; 42 starts). He last worked as a starting pitcher in 2013, making 26 starts for for High-A Inland Empire.
The Dodgers later claimed center fielder Daniel Fields off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers to give them 38 players on the 40-man roster.
