The calendar may have flipped to 2021, but the MLB free-agent market has still largely been stagnant to this point.
On the latest episode of “DodgerHeads,” DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand discussed the latest rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers, who seem to be one of the more active teams at the moment.
The most recent reports indicate that the Dodgers and Justin Turner are far apart in contract negotiations. Turner reportedly is seeking a four-year contract and the organization only willing to give him two years.
Considering Turner is already 36 years of age, would it make sense for the Dodgers to go beyond two years to bring him back? Or are the other third base options available on the free-agent and trade markets such as DJ LeMahieu, Kris Bryant and Eugenio Suarez better?
The other free agent the Dodgers have recently been linked to is Liam Hendriks, who is the best reliever available and certainly would improve L.A.’s bullpen.
It seems that Hendriks is receiving interest from a number of teams across the league, so is he worth getting in a bidding war over, or are there other relievers out there that would make more sense for the Dodgers?
Of course, the likelihood of L.A. potentially signing Hendriks presumably was reduced with Blake Treinen returning on a two-year contract.
New Year’s resolutions for the Dodgers
After sorting through the latest free agency rumors, Spiegel and Starkand continued the first show of the new year by making three resolutions each for select Dodgers players.
Spiegel’s resolutions were for Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger and manager Dave Roberts, while Starkand focused on improvements for Will Smith, Dustin May and Walker Buehler.
