In each of the last two seasons the Los Angeles Dodgers surprised and thrilled fans by announcing Vin Scully’s return via an in-game video.
Scully naturally received a standing ovation both instances, and he waved to the crowd before so humbly carrying on with calling that night’s game.
Whereas multiple Dodgers players, including Hyun-Jin Ryu, Justin Turner and Yasiel Puig, were part of the video that played in 2014, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and Dodgers part owner Magic Johnson participated last season.
On Friday, Major League Baseball announced the Dodgers’ 2015 announcement of Scully’s return won the Esurance MLB Award for Best Video Board Moment:

By winning the award, the Dodgers will receive a Greatness in Baseball Yearly (GIBBY) trophy. Seattle Mariners fan Evelyn Jones celebrating her 108th birthday at Safeco Field and the Chicago Cubs using Wrigley Field’s new video board to pay tribute to Harry Caray were the other finalists.
Three other award winners will be announced across social media platforms throughout the day Friday, then MLB Network will announce 18 more winners Friday evening during a show that begins at 5 p.m. PT.
Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw are nominated in the Best Major Leaguer and Best Starting Pitcher categories.
Joc Pederson is up for Best Rookie, Don Mattingly for Best Manager, and Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is a Best Executive nominee.
Additionally, Kershaw’s complete-game start against the San Francisco Giants to clinch the National League West is nominated for Best Performance, Ken Jeong for Best Celebrity Fan, and Scully’s call on the Dodgers’ balk-off win is up for Best Call (TV).
