On the final “DodgerHeads” episode of the year, DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand did some looking ahead to the 2021 season and what it holds for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they look to defend their World Series championship.
Both Spiegel and Starkand made five bold predictions each for the Dodgers, either good or bad, for the rest of this offseason and the 2021 season.
Will Justin Turner return to the Dodgers in free agency, or will the team make another big move to replace him? That was the offseason focus of the bold predictions.
As far as next season goes, Clayton Kershaw, Will Smith, Victor Gonzalez, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Brandon Morrow, Edwin Rios, Gavin Lux and Kenley Jansen were among those discussed.
Kershaw and Jansen, in particular, are two of the more polarizing figures in the Dodgers organization and that was no different in this episode with Starkand and Spiegel disagreeing a bit on how well both pitchers will perform in 2021.
As they get set to enter the final year of their respective contracts, might this be the last we see of Kershaw and Jansen in a Dodger uniform?
Padres acquisitions of Darvish and Snell
Before getting into their bold predictions, Spiegel and Starkand started the show by discussing the recent moves the division-rival San Diego Padres made, including acquiring two frontline starting pitchers in Yu Darvish and Blake Snell.
How much do those moves close the gap between the Dodgers and Padres, and does the latter even have a better starting rotation as currently constructed?
Finally, to close out the show, there was a question and answer period which consisted of discussion on Keibert Ruiz, AJ Pollock, Max Muncy and others.
