The 2020 MLB Winter Meetings are officially underway virtually, although to this point, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been relatively quiet.

Because of that, the latest live episode of “DodgerHeads” featured discussion between DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand on the organization’s outfield situation.

There’s no doubt Cody Bellinger and Mookie Betts will be in center field and right field, respectively, for at least a couple more years to come. How did Betts’ first season with the team compare to expectations? Was he better or worse than Dodger fans were expecting?

As for Bellinger, he has now played four Major League seasons, and every other year he has gone from an MVP-caliber player to slightly above average. So which is the real Bellinger and what can fans expect from him moving forward before free agency?

The discussion then shifted to left field, which is the only outfield position currently in question for the Dodgers. AJ Pollock is still under contract and will see a lot of time there in 2021, of course, but is he capable of being an everyday player?

If Pollock isn’t an everyday left fielder, then should the club take a look at re-signing Joc Pederson or another left-handed bat in free agency? Spiegel and Starkand had differing opinions when it came to re-signing Pederson.

Finally, the outfield discussion concluded with Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux, two players who will likely see a majority of their playing time in the infield in 2021 but could also figure into the left field situation if needed.

Dodgers fans’ questions

To close out the show, Spiegel and Starkand answered fan questions, including on newly-acquired reliever Corey Knebel’s fit with the team, Kenley Jansen’s future as the closer after Dave Roberts’ recent comments and much more.
