With their win over the Oakland Athletics in the series opener at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the National League West division title for an eighth consecutive season.

This year is obviously a unique one due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as the season was shortened to just 60 games. Additionally, the emergence of a young, talented San Diego Padres team made things difficult late for the Dodgers.

Although, much of that was quelled as L.A. bounced back with consecutive victories at Petco Park that served as a springboard for a five-game winning streak. This run is the best in franchise and NL West history.

In making the postseason eight years in a row, the Dodgers have the third-longest streak in MLB history behind only the 1991-2005 Atlanta Braves (14) and 1995-2007 New York Yankees (13).

Someone who was around for the first handful division titles but not the past several is retired legendary broadcaster Vin Scully, who officially retired after the 2016 season. Scully recently joined social media and it is apparent that he is still keeping up with the team as he posted a video congratulating the Dodgers on winning the NL West once again:

My heartiest congratulations to the @Dodgers for clinching the NL West and the top NL seed! Great accomplishment thus far. Historically speaking, tough road ahead. pic.twitter.com/BDUBHOeYLc

— Vin Scully (@TheVinScully) September 24, 2020

Scully is a walking Dodgers encyclopedia, still with so much knowledge and great stories to share at 92 years of age. His joining social media allows him to share those, and he did so in this video by talking about some of the times the Dodgers lost the pennant is disappointing fashion his first few years in the organization.

It is good to see that he still keeps up with the team though even when he isn’t in the booth calling games every night.

Dodgers also clinch top seed in NL

In addition to clinching the NL West, the Dodgers also earned the top seed in the NL overall going into the postseason.

With the expanded playoffs this year, that means they will host the eighth seed in the NL Wild Card round, which will be a best-of-three games. If L.A. advances, they will move on to the NL Division Series, and that will take place in a bubble in Texas.
