After a big series win over the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers continued their final road trip of the season by beginning a four-game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field with a 9-3 victory on Thursday night.
It took the Dodgers offense a little time to get going as they did not score until the fourth inning. With the team trailing 2-0, Corey Seager cut the deficit in half with a towering solo home run to right field for his 12th of the season.
Seager had another strong night at the plate, collecting three hits and falling a triple shy of the cycle. He improved his season slashline to .309/.357/.602.
After Seager’s home run, the offense got going a bit as Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger both singled and Chris Taylor walked to load the bases. Kiké Hernandez was then hit by a pitch to bring a run home and tie the game.
The scoring didn’t pick back up until the seventh inning when the Dodgers scored six more times to break the game open. Mookie Betts drove the first run home on a single up the middle, followed by an RBI double from Seager.
Will Smith had the biggest hit of the inning, a two-run double, and then Taylor capped off the rally with a bases-loaded walk.
Edwin Rios was responsible for the Dodgers’ final run of the night, slugging a 427-foot homer to the second deck in right for his fifth of the year.
Urias settles in after rough first inning
As has become a theme this season, Julio Urias struggled in the first inning of his start, allowing three hits and a pair of runs. He settled in nicely from there though, retiring the next 13 hitters faced.
The southpaw wound up getting through 5.2 innings of work, allowing just the three hits and two runs while striking out two with zero walks.
