Dodgers Injury News: Dustin May Day-To-Day After CT Scan

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Dustin May sustained a contusion as a result of being hit in his left foot by a comebacker. It occurred on the first batter May faced in his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

The rookie initially remained in the game and completed a scoreless first inning. May’s velocity held but he walked gingerly around the mound and off the field. He was removed while in the process of warming up for the second inning.

An X-ray was inconclusive, which prompted May to undergo a CT scan once the Dodgers returned to Los Angeles. “Good news,” manager Dave Roberts said Saturday, explaining May was diagnosed with a contusion after the second examination.

“There was no fracture. Right now, it just seems like a contusion. Now it’s more of seeing where he’s at as he’s getting treatment and moving around. It’s sort of a day-to-day thing.”

The Dodgers aren’t yet considering a roster move with May, however he won’t make his next turn in the rotation. That instead will go to Tony Gonsolin, who Roberts said is scheduled to start Tuesday in a pivotal series against the San Diego Padres.

May is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in nine starts this season. He was pressed into Opening Day duty because of Clayton Kershaw’s back injury, and had remained a regular in the starting rotation since that point.

Roberts added the Dodgers are going to continue erring on the side of caution to ensure he can “repeat his delivery” with consistency and not have his mechanics compromised as a result of the banged-up foot.

Dodgers rotation on shaky ground

In addition to May dealing with an injury, the Dodgers are also without Walker Buehler as a blister on his right index finger required a second stint on the 10-day injured list.

Roberts nonetheless is confident in the rotation’s current standing, noting that Buehler is expected to be activated once eligible.
