On the latest episode of “DodgerHeads” host Jeff Spiegl and DodgerBlue.com managing editor Matthew Moreno were joined by SportsNet LA reporter Alanna Rizzo, who is entering her seventh season covering the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rizzo shared her backstory, which did not begin with a passion for baseball. If of course now is her favorite sport, though the hometown Denver Broncos will forever hold a special place in Rizzo’s heart.
Prior to joining the Dodgers’ broadcast team, she made stops at MLB Network and lesser-known Wichita Falls, Texas. While the small market presented its challenges, Rizzo explained what benefit gaining that experience ultimately had.
The six-time Emmy Award-winner also dove into what the past six years have been like covering a Dodgers team that has reigned over the National League West and made back-to-back appearances in the World Series.
The interview with Rizzo touched on challenges she’s facing as a Tier 3 individual with reporting this season due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic leading to sweeping changes across Major League Baseball. Lastly, she answered rapid fire questions about matters on and off the field, and shared information about her second passion, Guidry’s Guardian Foundation.
Spiegel and Moreno concluded the show by reviewing top storylines from Dodgers Summer Camp, including clubhouse attendant Francisco “Chico” Herrera, Walker Buehler’s absence, the emergence of Edwin Rios, and more.
About Guidry’s Guardian Foundation
After a year of planning, Rizzo officially launched her foundation on July 4, 2019. Its mission is to raise awareness for dogs that are in need of a forever home and rescue those from high-kill shelters.
“If I save one dog, it was worth all of it,” Rizzo previously told DodgerBlue.com.
Donations can be made on the official website of Guidry’s Guardian Foundation, and it can be followed on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
