While the prospect of a 2020 regular season still hangs in the balance as Major League Baseball and the Players Association work to reach an agreement, the Los Angeles Dodgers remain ahead of the New York Yankees in 2020 World Series odds.
As it currently stands, the Dodgers are +375 favorites, followed by the Yankees at +450. There then is a significant drop off to the Houston Astros, who hold +1200 odds. The Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins, both at +2000, round out the top five for best World Series odds.
The Dodgers of course are no strangers to being favorites to reach or win the Fall Classic over the past few seasons. They set a Los Angeles franchise record with 104 wins in 2017, experienced some regression the following year, then won an organization-best 106 games last season.
But while the Dodgers — like the Yankees — were heavily favored to reach the 2019 World Series, they both fell short. The Astros returned for a second time in three years, falling to the Washington Nationals in seven games.
The Dodgers’ 2020 World Series odds received a significant boost in February when the team completed a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox to acquire Mookie Betts and David Price.
Their additions gave the Dodgers a roster with three MVPs and another Cy Young Award winner in the starting rotation. Although Betts and Price were immediately touted as difference-makers for the Dodgers in their quest for a World Series title, both downplayed that narrative.
“We can take it as a compliment, for sure. But we don’t want to add any extra pressure,” Betts said. “We’re coming here to play the game the same way we always do. We’re both winners, we work hard to get to where we are and we’re just going to bring it here.”
Price added: “To be able to jump onto a team like the Dodgers, a team that’s had the amount of success they’ve had the past couple of years, to be able to add a player like Mookie Betts and myself as well, that’s something special to be a part of. We’re both very excited.”
Prior to the Dodgers completing their trade with the Red Sox, PECOTA had already projected them to cruise to another National League West title and post the best record in baseball.
