With Major League Baseball owners agreeing to a plan for the 2020 regular season, the next step toward resuming play is presenting the proposal to the Players Association.
“DodgerHeads” host Jeff Spiegel welcomed DodgerBlue.com prospect guru Justin Lorber, more commonly known as @FutureDodgers, onto the show to discuss the various factors of the season and what impact changes to the 2020 MLB Draft will have on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
By limiting the draft to just five rounds, Lorber believes teams are sacrificing long-term health and growth of the sport in exchange for immediate financial relief.
Meanwhile, Spiegel and Lorber highlight which prospects in the Dodgers organization stand to benefit from active rosters reportedly being expanded to 30, plus an additional 20 for a taxi squad. However, Minor League players also face the possibility of losing their entire 2020 season because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Spiegel, a noted proponent of the designated hitter, explained he is pleased that may be coming to the National League as soon as this year. That change is another which the Dodgers should benefit from, given their depth on the position-player side.
However, there is some doubt cast on the notion that MLB will manage to stage Spring Training and the regular season at home ballparks rather than facilities in Arizona and Florida.
Lastly, Spiegel closes the show by checking on his favorite KBO team, which is currently slumping, and sharing news of Justin and Kourtney Turner returning as honorary hosts of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Walk and Play L.A. event.
