The second Los Angeles Dodgers Zoom party featured the returns of broadcasters Joe Davis, Orel Hershiser, Alanna Rizzo, Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner, and saw them joined by Cedric The Entertainer, Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez, among others.
Close to 12,000 unique accounts logged into the Zoom party, which is an increase on their debut chat. The event began with plenty of laughs as Rizzo asked Bellinger a question, only for it to be followed by silence.
Davis alertly informed the reigning National League MVP he had to unmute himself, and the minor mishap sent his Dodgers teammates into laughter. Bellinger’s youth — and beard — were often the source of jokes throughout the night.
So too was Kershaw’s reputation and serious mood on start days. Kershaw did acknowledge there are instances where Kiké Hernandez manages to pry a smile out of the three-time Cy Young Award winner.
Another highlight was Ethier, who dressed for the occasion in full uniform. It stemmed from a challenge issued by David Vassegh during one of the weekly radio shows he records with the former Dodgers outfielder.
And amid talks of the 2020 MLB season likely being played without fans, Kershaw petitioned for Ethier to be the exception. He also lobbied for the 38-year-old to come out of retirement in order to provide motivation for when Kershaw is on the mound.
Some of the players also shared who they idolized when growing up, with former Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach garnering recognition from Kershaw and Turner. Kershaw also explained the impact Will Clark had on his career, and he was certain to make mention of that coming with the Texas Rangers, not San Francisco Giants.
