On the latest episode of “DodgerHeads,” host Jeff Spiegel and DodgerBlue.com managing editor Matthew Moreno are joined by actor and lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan Troy Garity.

Troy is quarantining with his family in Southern California amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which he admitted has presented some challenges but Garity nonetheless was more than happy to engage in a conversation about the Dodgers — touching on both the past and present.

Whereas video footage has proven hundreds of fans left Game 1 of the 1988 World Series prematurely, Troy remained in his seat behind the Dodgers’ dugout in the bottom of the ninth inning.

His father was a Detroit Tigers fan, so Troy was quite familiar with Kirk Gibson. That prior knowledge, coupled with an eternal belief in the Dodgers, led to having confidence in the hobbled Gibson.

“I’m naive, so I’m always thinking Dodgers are going to win,” Troy admitted. “At that point in my life, I really thought Tommy Lasorda was my blood and tissue uncle. I thought it. So when Kirk Gibson came out, to me, I was like, ‘We got this.'”

While that was a fond trip down memory lane, Garity is much more concerned with respect to the 2020 Major League Baseball regular season. He isn’t convinced MLB will manage to play their season — even without fans in attendance — due to safety concerns.

Whether the Arizona plan; using Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues; or staging the season in Arizona, Florida and Texas, Troy is skeptical every player would manage to comply with quarantining rules. He also raised the question over sheer viability, noting in the event an injury occurs, roster management and movement could prove difficult.

And in light of that skepticism, Troy halfheartedly pitched an idea of staging a 2020 World Series between the Dodgers and New York Yankees in lieu of playing a regular season.
