The Los Angeles Dodgers completed multiple roster moves prior to their weekend series with the Washington Nationals, most prominently recalling Will Smith and optioning Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Now, Tyler White has been added to the active roster, while David Freese was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Freese is back on the 10-day IL for a second time in the past month. He previously dealt with tendinitis in his right knee, which contributed to the strained left hamstring that led to the Dodgers initially sidelining Freese on June 23.

“I think they’re all tough, obviously, but David is a tough loss in the sense of his at-bat against a lefty, off the bench the presence he has,” Roberts said at the time. “But I think that fortunately, where we’re at, we have a luxury right now of not putting him in harms way to make sure he’s ready for the stretch run.”

Along with making spot starts at first base, Freese has been an integral pinch-hit option. He has 10 hits, including four doubles and one home run, in 25 such at-bats. Overall, Freese has appeared in 66 games (32 starts) and is batting .300/.399/.579.

White was acquired from the Houston Astros in a trade that saw the organization part with 2016 MLB Draft pick Andre Scrubb. The Astros designated White for assignment last week in a corresponding roster move to calling up Jose Urquidy from Triple-A Round Rock.

White hit .225/.320/.330 with 14 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 71 games for the Astros this season. He was selected by the Astros in the 33rd round of the 2013 Draft and been with the team since appearing in a career-high 85 games as a rookie in 2016.

The 28-year-old is out of Minor League options.
