Recap: Josue De Paula Plays Key Role & Dodgers Hit 5 Home Runs

The Los Angeles Dodgers kicked off their final homestand of the season on Friday night against the San Francisco Giants with a win.

L.A. has won the season series with S.F. each of the last four years and are now 44-22 against the Giants since 2022.

The all-time series between the Giants and Dodgers stands at 1,292—1,291—19 with San Francisco holding the edge by one series win. Last year, the Dodgers briefly claimed the lead in their head-to-head matchup for the first time since Aug. 8, 1896.

A win on Saturday or Sunday would tie the all-time season series.

The Dodgers are 27-17 against the National League West this season.

Dodgers 8, Giants 2: key takeaways

Dodgers hit 5 home runs, Josue De Paula shines

The Dodgers offense didn’t have their best game, but still came through when it mattered.

Mookie Betts started the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first inning. It was his 33rd leadoff homer with the Dodgers and his first since 2024.

After the Giants took the lead, the Dodgers answered back in the fifth inning to tie the game. It was started with a leadoff single from Josue De Paula, and then another single from Betts moved him into scoring position.

With one out, Teoscar Hernández picked up his own single to tie the game.

Kyle Tucker led off the sixth inning with a walk, and he ended up scoring on an RBI double from Josue De Paula.

De Paula contributed to both the tying and go-ahead runs in his Dodger Stadium debut as he continues to make his impressive case to earn a spot on the postseason roster.

In the eighth inning, the Dodgers broke the game open with a home run party.

Max Muncy started it off with a solo home run to leadoff the eighth inning. He was then followed with another homer from Tucker to give the Dodgers back-to-back blasts.

Josue De Paula worked a two-out walk, and then Betts blasted his second homer of the game to put the Dodgers up 7-2.

They weren’t done there as Will Smith slugged the fourth home run of the inning on the 20th anniversary of the 4+1 game.

Tyler Glasnow has strikeout stuff working

After a rough outing his last time out, Tyler Glasnow vastly improved in this one, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expected that from the right-hander.

“We flew him straight here from Miami, so he got back on Pacific Standard Time, in his own bed, one leg of travel versus two,” Roberts said before the game. “He threw his bullpen a few days ago, and it was great. He’s dialed.”

Glasnow ended up giving the Dodgers six innings with two runs allowed on three hits and two walks. He also struck out a season-high six batters.

The first run Glasnow allowed came in the second inning on a solo home run from Jung Hoo Lee that tied the game. The Giants then scored the go-ahead run in the second inning after starting the rally with a leadoff walk, adding a one-out walk, and then a two-run RBI single.

After that, Glasnow did not allow another baserunner until the sixth inning, when he issues a leadoff walk. He ended up ending his night with a strikeout.

Kris Bubic, Tanner Scott and Edwin Díaz pitched the final three innings without allowing a run. Evan Phillips was warming up for the ninth and would have entered for the save chance before the Dodgers extended their lead to six runs and turned to Díaz.
