The Los Angeles Dodgers had their season-best winning streak snapped at eight games on Saturday, but prior to that reached a benchmark that made MLB history.
The Dodgers have totaled 90 wins in a full season for the 13th consecutive year, breaking a tie with the New York Yankees for the MLB record. From 1947-58, the Yankees had a minimum of 92 wins every year.
Dodgers’ 90-win seasons
The Dodgers’ streak of accumulating at least 90 wins in a full season started in 2013. That year also represents the start of their dominant reign over the National League West.
When MLB played a shortened schedule in 2020, the Dodgers’ had the best record in baseball at 43-17. Their .717 winning percentage equated to a 116-win pace over the course of a full season.
Since Dave Roberts made his managerial debut in 2016, the Dodgers have never won fewer than 91 games in a full season. Roberts reached 1,000 wins as Dodgers manager earlier this year.
The last time the Dodgers did not reach a minimum of 90 wins in a full schedule was 2012, when they won just 86 games. From 2005-12, the Dodgers won 90 or more games just once, which came during the 2009 season when they reached 95.
Also coinciding with the Dodgers’ stretch of 90-win seasons is a streak of 13 consecutive playoff appearances. It’s already the longest active MLB postseason streak and is tied with the New York Yankees (1995-2007) for second all-time.
The Dodgers are on the verge of punching their ticket for October baseball yet again, and in doing so will tie the Atlanta Braves for the longest postseason streak in MLB history at 14 seasons in a row. Atlanta achieved the feat from 1991-2005.
Furthermore, another tie with the Braves that the Dodgers are poised to break — albeit perhaps temporarily — is for most division titles in MLB history since 1969. Both teams currently have 23 division titles and are closing in on adding another this year.
The Braves face somewhat of a more challenging road to doing so in 2026 due to their divisional lead being smaller than the Dodgers.
One NL record the Dodgers already hold is 16 consecutive winning seasons.
