The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Blake Treinen from the 60-day injured list and placed Eric Lauer on the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred Will Klien to the 60-day IL.
Lauer struggled in his start on Sept. 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing seven runs on eight hits in just three innings. He expressed confidence after the game that the issues were due to his command being off and not making adjustments quickly enough.
The veteran southpaw is now 7-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 14 games (12 starts) for the Dodgers. He was acquired on May 17 from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. Lauer was 1-5 with a 6.69 ERA in eight games for the Blue Jays.
Blake Treinen returns from elbow injury
Treinen is back with the Dodgers after missing more than two months because of right elbow inflammation. He recently completed a rehab assignment that saw him throw 6.1 scoreless innings in seven appearances between Single-A Ontario and Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Treinen is 4-1 with a 3.52 ERA, 3.47 FIP and 1.35 WHIP in 23 innings across 29 games for the Dodgers this year. He always had confidence in returning to L.A. before the end of the regular season and now hopes to make an impact down the stretch.
“I’ve had good practice at this,” Treinen said on SportsNet LA last month. “It’s unfortunately something I’ve been fairly familiar with, the process of rehabbing back in the middle of the season. We have a lot of great people here who have been very consistent with me, very patient.
“So for me, if I feel like I did today, that’s a huge blessing. And I’m grateful for it, because I don’t know if I’ve felt like that for a while.
“Even when I was pitching this year, there was times where I felt connected and other times where I felt like I was fighting myself. Today felt amazing. I feel very confident if it lines up, I’m healthy and throwing like I was today, I feel like I can really help the team down the stretch.
“So that’s my goal. One box a day to check off, and get back here whenever it lines up with the team. Today was a really good start.”
Will Klein transferred to 60-day injured list
Klein landed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 1 due to bone chips in his right elbow. The hope was Klein would avoid surgery and be able to return at some point this season after taking a rest-and-rehab approach.
The right-hander reported improvement with his right elbow and will began a throwing program with plyos roughly a week after landing on the IL.
Klein is now no longer able to return until Sept. 30, three days after the end of the regular season. That could put him in line to pitch during the playoffs, but it’s unclear if the Dodgers would be comfortable adding him back to their roster after missing two months.
Klein has nevertheless been on a throwing progression.
