Clayton Kershaw was with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night for the start of their road trip as he joined Joe Davis for the SportsNet LA broadcast of the series opener against the Atlanta Braves.
It represented Kershaw’s first time working as a SportsNet LA analyst in an official capacity. He previously was part of the network’s telecasts through in-game interviews at various points of his 18-year career.
Trying on a new hat was something Kershaw enjoyed, according to Jack Harris of the California Post.
“Honestly, the whole experience, I really had a good time with it,” Kershaw told the California Post on Wednesday morning. “It was really fun.”
The future Hall of Famer did have some initial nerves with the role but eventually settled in and found working alongside Davis to be an extension of his passion for the sport.
“But then, when you’re just watching a baseball game and talking about it, that’s what I love to do,” he said. “I love watching baseball and talking baseball, especially when it’s not about me. That’s the stuff that I really, really enjoyed, and felt like as the game went on, I got a little more comfortable with that.”
Kershaw was in the seat most often occupied by Orel Hershiser, who recently extended an open invitation to the left-hander.

“When you want to do this broadcasting thing, you can borrow my seat next to Joe anytime you want,” Hershiser said during his speech for the unveiling of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “You want to get ready for that national job.”
Clayton Kershaw’s broadcasting career
Months after retiring, Kershaw was hired as an analyst for NBC Sports’ return to broadcasting MLB games.
Kershaw was part of their Opening Day coverage — along with Hershiser — when the Dodgers hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks, and again joined an NBC broadcast on Aug. 2 for a game with the Boston Red Sox. Though in both of those cases he was effectively the third member and seated alongside the Dodgers’ dugout rather than sitting in the booth.
In addition to his role as an analyst, Kershaw was hired by the Dodgers as a special assistant in the front office.
