Recap: Dodgers Complete Sweep Of Rockies With Extra Innings Victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a three-game sweep against the Colorado Rockies for the second time this season after going to extra innings.

They previously swept the Rox on May 25-27 at Dodger Stadium, and it was the ninth sweep of their season. The Dodgers’ last three-game sweep at Coors Field was June 24-26, 2025.

L.A. has taken nine of the last 10 games against Colorado this season, and they have gone 10-3 overall.

Since the start of the 2023 season, the Dodgers are 41-11 against the Rockies, including a 20-8 mark at Coors Field in that time. Colorado hasn’t won a series with Los Angeles since June 27-29, 2022.

The Dodgers have won the season series over the Rockies for nine consecutive campaigns (2018-26).

With the win, the Dodgers moved to above .500 since the All-Star break, now at 16-15. The Dodgers also improved on their best road record in baseball at 40-25.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 4

The Dodgers’ offense wasn’t nearly as good as it has been over the last two games, but still managed to score enough to win.

They slugged two home runs, which both came in the fourth inning. Mookie Betts started them off with a solo shot, his 16th long ball of the season.

Then, after a single from Kyle Tucker, Kiké Hernández slugged his first home run since returning from the injured list.

Hernández also put the Dodgers up in the second inning with an RBI single to score Betts. Betts hit a one-out single to set the stage, and moved into scoring position on a single from Tucker.

The Dodgers scored their two runs in extra innings on a sacrifice fly from Freddie Freeman, and then an RBI single from Betts, who had three hits in the game.

Roki Sasaki turns in excellent start

Roki Sasaki turned in another excellent start, pitching five innings of two-run ball. He allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out six.

Pitching through a start at Coors Field is difficult, and Sasaki stepped up. He should have allowed just one run, but a misplay from his defense cost him.

In the fourth inning, Sasaki allowed a leadoff single and one-out double. He then recorded a fly ball that should have merely been a sacrifice fly, but instead, Teoscar Hernández took a poor route and allowed the ball to fly over his head, turning it into a two-run double.

After that, Sasaki recorded a fly out and strikeout to end the inning.

Sasaki dealt with a good amount of traffic on the bases, but that’s normal for a start in Colorado. Each time, he was able to pitch out of it, or limit the damage.

The Rockies went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position against the right-hander, with the lone hit being the mistake in the outfield.

Sasaki now has a 2.63 ERA over his last seven starts, tossing 41 innings, and since the All-Star game, he’s posted a 2.10 ERA over 30 innings.

Alex Vesia chokes late lead

The Dodgers took a lead into the seventh inning, but Alex Vesia allowed a two-out walk, and then a game-tying two-run homer. Vesia has a 4.38 ERA over his last 15 appearances, and he has specifically given up the long ball often.

That ended up sending the game to extra innings after the Dodgers were unable score again until extras, and the Rockies couldn’t win it against Kyle Hurt or Jack Dreyer.

Before that point, Brock Stewart made his first appearance since being activated off the injured list earlier in the day. He pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Tanner Scott closed out the game for the second consecutive night to secure the victory.
