Freddie Freeman Recovered From Body Soreness After Falling Into Dugout

As the Los Angeles Dodgers were closing in on a series sweep of the Kansas City Royals last week they endured an injury scare when Freddie Freeman went face-first into the visitors dugout on his attempt to catch a pop-up.

Miguel Rojas rushed down the steps and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer sprinted over to check on the All-Star first baseman. Freeman initially remained in the game but Tommy Edman pinch-hit for him to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning.

Freeman fortunately came away without any significant injury but dealt with soreness throughout his body. Freeman was in the Dodgers lineup the next game before getting what had been a planned night off this past Friday.

Freddie Freeman gives positive update

While Freeman and the Dodgers collectively struggled at the plate in their series against the Milwaukee Brewers, he is in a much better state physically, according to David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports.

On the night he slipped and went tumbling into the Royals’ dugout Freeman shared that he joked with Dodgers head athletic trainer Thomas Albert if a full-body X-ray was possible when asked if he wanted to have any scans done.

“I didn’t hit my head, so that was the key part there,” Freeman added. “I am sore. Kneecaps are sore, shoulder is sore, hand is sore, wrist sore. I mean, I fell. I’m in good spirits.

“I’ve already cold tubbed and done everything I needed to do to put myself in a position to hopefully be able to play [Thursday]. I just talked to Doc, Andrew (Friedman), Gomer (Brandon Gomes) and everybody in there, so we’ll just see how I feel tomorrow when I wake up.

“I think I already was going to have Friday off, so we’ll just see how I feel when I wake up. But right now I’m just sore.”

Meanwhile, after sharing he had overcome the body soreness, Freeman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, one RBI and one double in the Dodgers’ win on Monday night.

Freeman had been without an extra-base hit since his double on July 26. He last hit a home run on July 4. The double came during a 15-game hitting streak that spanned July 20-Aug. 5.
