The Los Angeles Dodgers won their second consecutive game against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night thanks to Max Muncy’s walk-off single in the 10th inning.
The 35-year-old finished 2-for-4, which came on the heels of his clutch, go-ahead three-run double in the Dodgers’ 6-5 win over the Royals on Monday.
Muncy has been swinging a better bat of late after a rough start to the second half of the season while the Dodgers were in the midst of a long road trip. Prior to the start of the Dodgers’ current homestand, he was hitting just .194/.286/.468 with seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI in 19 games since the All-Star break.
Muncy attributed his recent offensive struggles to an illness that threw his swing off.
“Mechanically, I was a little off last week, and the body wasn’t feeling great,” Muncy explained. “I was a little sick after that road trip. So that’s part of the season. You have to fight through those things sometimes, and obviously, the results weren’t great for me last week.
“But hopefully now that we’re feeling a little bit better, we can keep moving forward.”
Muncy hopes to keep the momentum rolling by taking things one game at a time.
“You just have to keep showing up every day,” Muncy said. “The hard thing with baseball is not letting the highs get too high and the lows get too low. It’s a really hard thing to do when you show up every single day.
“Everyone has their own way of doing it, but you just have to show up each day and find a way to have a clean slate and keep doing your routine, keep working on the things you need to work on, and just try to find a way to win a game.”

Despite his recent slump, Muncy is in the midst of another excellent season at the plate. He entered play Wednesday batting .251/.345/.485 with 17 doubles, one triple, 22 home runs and 56 RBI in 110 games.
Muncy, who is the longest-tenured Dodgers player, passed Ron Cey for second on the all-time home runs list in L.A. franchise history earlier this season. Muncy is closing in on another record, as his next long ball at Dodger Stadium will make him the all-time home runs leader at the ballpark.
