Recap: Dodgers Drop 3rd Consecutive Series As All-Around Struggles Continue

The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded a brutal road trip with another loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks. L.A. went just 1-5 on their road trip as they now return to Dodger Stadium for seven straight.

The Dodgers have now lost three consecutive series for the first time since Aug. 29-Sept. 7, 2025 against Arizona, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles.

Additionally, the Diamondbacks have clinched the season series against the Dodgers, going 7-6 against them. It’s the first time in eight years that the Dodgers have failed to win the season series against the Snakes.

The Dodgers are just 9-12 in the second half of the season.

Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 2: key takeaways

A tale of two All-Stars

Justin Wrobleski and Eduardo Rodriguez were both members of the National League All-Star team this year, and they faced off against each other on Sunday afternoon.

However, both starters turned in completely different outings.

Wrobleski was only able to pitch 3.1 innings while allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. He exited in the fourth inning with two runners on, but Edgardo Henriquez stranded them.

The Diamondbacks took a lead when Ketel Marte launched a two-run homer in the first inning. It was the ninth homer Wrobleski has allowed over his previous three starts.

Arizona added on in the second, starting with a leadoff double from Tyler Locklear. He scored when Ryan Waldschmidt laid down a sacrifice bunt, but reached on a throwing error from Wrobleski.

The Diamondbacks got their fourth run when Gabriel Moreno doubled him home.

As for Rodriguez, he was excellent, tossing seven innings of two-run ball. He allowed just five hits, walked two and struck out a season-high nine hitters.

The Dodgers first got to him in the third inning when Andy Pages drove in Kiké Hernández, who reached on a single. Ben Rortvedt also singled to put him in scoring position.

In the sixth, Freddie Freeman had a leadoff single, and he came around to score when Kyle Tucker tripled.

Tucker now has a seven-game hitting streak. The right fielder has hit .304/.418/.609 with four home runs, six RBI and 10 runs scored over his last 15 games.

Dodgers offense continues to struggle

Since June, the Dodgers have been a middle-of-the-pack to below-average offense, and they have not shown any signs of changing that.

During that stretch, they rank 12th in runs scored and wRC+, 16th in slugging percentage, 20th in home runs and 24th in strikeout rate. They have performed well in batting average and on-base percentage, but have often failed to capitalize and turn those baserunners into runs.

Sunday was another game where those struggles were highlighted. The offense went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The long ball also continued to be nonexistent for the club as they hit just two over the three-game series, and none on Sunday.

Dodgers bullpen bouncing back?

The Dodgers’ bullpen has had a rough stretch since July, but they have been excellent over the last two games.

L.A. used six relievers on Saturday, and they combined to allow just one run over 4.1 innings. On Sunday, the Dodgers needed to cover 5.2 innings from the bullpen, and they were once again up to the challenge, giving up zero runs while five different pitchers contributed.
