The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Minor League pitcher Carlos Duran to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Kris Bubic in their second confirmed move on deadline day.
Also on Monday, the Dodgers reunited with Ben Rortvedt in a deal that sent Chayce McDermott to the New York Mets. McDermott was traded three days after getting designated for assignment. That has since been followed by a reported trade for Hunter Feduccia as well.
Bubic, an All-Star in 2025, is currently on the 60-day injured list.
He was first placed on the 15-day IL on May 18 (retroactive to May 15) due to left elbow soreness. The Royals then transferred Bubic to the 60-day IL on July 1 in response to suffering a setback in his rehab process, though in the form of left shoulder soreness and not more elbow trouble.
Because Bubic is on the 60-day injured list, he does not yet need to be added onto the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. The left-hander became eligible to get activated on July 14.
Bubic started a rehab assignment on June 9 but was shut down because of the aforementioned shoulder soreness. Bubic started throwing bullpen sessions on June 18 and began a second rehab assignment on June 24. It was followed by another outing on June 27 before getting scratched from a third outing as he experienced more shoulder issues.
Bubic received a cortisone injection in early July and as of last week was said to be throwing from out to 80 feet on flat ground.
Carlos Duran traded
Duran is on the move for the second time in as many seasons. Last year, he was traded to the Athletics for Esteury Ruiz, then re-signed by the Dodgers during the offseason.
Duran made just one appearance at the big league level for the A’s in 2025 and retired only one of five batters faced, allowing three runs on one hit to go along with three walks.
The Athletics designated Duran for assignment in June 2025, and he went on to spend the rest of the season with their Triple-A affiliate.
Duran was added onto the Dodgers’ 40-man roster on July 6 but remained with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 25-year-old went 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 37 appearances (two starts) with the Comets this season.
Duran originally signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2018 and spent parts of seven seasons with the organization over two stints.
