The Los Angeles Dodgers left the All-Star break with one major reminder and one useful data point. Justin Wrobleski turned in the best Dodgers performance in Philadelphia, while Shohei Ohtani stayed home for treatment and Yoshinobu Yamamoto remained unused because of how the club had lined him up before the break.
For a team that entered the second half with the National League’s best record, the All-Star Game did not change much. It did, however, reinforce how much this roster still drives the conversation around the sport and around Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2026.
Dodgers In Philadelphia
The National League lost 4-0, and the Dodgers had six representatives in the game. Freeman, Max Muncy, and Andy Pages started for the NL, while Ohtani was not available, and Yamamoto did not pitch.
Batting in the third position, Freeman went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. He battled in one of his trips, ran the count full, and still came up empty against a sharp slider from Dylan Cease. That is the kind of night that says little about Freeman’s value and everything about the strength of the opposing pitching.
Muncy also finished 0-for-2, and he never found much rhythm at the plate. The crowd in Philadelphia let him hear it, which was predictable after last October, but the bigger takeaway is that Muncy still entered the break with strong first-half production and a top-tier power profile for the Dodgers.
Pages went 0-for-2 as well, but he had the toughest luck of the three. He struck out once and was robbed of a hit by a strong defensive play, then faded into a night that mostly reflected the National League’s overall struggles. Even so, making his first All-Star team at 24 remained a meaningful milestone.
Wrobleski Breaks Out
Wrobleski was the clear standout. Despite being a late addition, the left-hander struck out five hitters over two innings, beginning with a dominant seventh inning in which he punched out Travis Bazzana, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Yandy Díaz in order.
He then returned for the eighth and gave up a solo homer to ex-Dodger Miguel Vargas, but the damage never really defined his outing. The important part was the swing-and-miss stuff. He became the first pitcher since Pedro Martínez in 1999 to strike out five in a single All-Star Game, and he did it on his 26th birthday.
That performance fit the shape of Wrobleski’s season. He arrived in Philadelphia as an emerging arm, then left having made a national impression. For a Dodgers pitching staff built on depth and flexibility, that kind of showing matters beyond one exhibition game.
Ohtani And Yamamoto
Ohtani missed the game because the Dodgers kept him in Los Angeles to deal with continued irritation in his left knee. The club said he would undergo treatment after the final series before the break, and that made travel to Philadelphia a no-go.
The Dodgers also kept him from pitching in the days leading up to the break, so his All-Star absence followed a clear health plan rather than any roster decision. Ohtani still finished the first half as one of the defining players in baseball, but the team chose the long view and protected him for the stretch run.
Yamamoto did attend, but he was unlikely to pitch because he had been lined up to start on the Saturday before the break. The Dodgers and All-Star staff had already mapped out his workload, and that made him a presence in Philadelphia without an in-game role.
Second-Half Outlook
The Dodgers now turn back to the regular season with a division lead and a roster that kept its core pieces intact through the break. The All-Star Game did not deliver fireworks for Freeman, Muncy, or Pages, but it did show that the team’s depth remains real.
The bigger story is health. Ohtani’s knee will shape the way the Dodgers manage the coming weeks, and Yamamoto’s workload will remain part of the club’s bigger pitching plan. If Wrobleski’s birthday outing is any sign, though, the Dodgers still have another young arm pushing for a larger role.
