From an unheralded Minor League signing to second on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ all-time home run list, Max Muncy’s career journey has been incredible to witness.
Manager Dave Roberts has a special connection with the nine-year Dodgers veteran. In many ways, the pair have grown together in the organization. Roberts was named as the manager in 2016 and Muncy joined the active roster in 2018.
“I’ve been with him longer than any player on this roster, I’ve watched every single one of his at-bats and I’ve had a lot of conversations with him,” Roberts recently said. “He’s one of the leaders on this ballclub. He’s won three championships with me and he’s going to go down in Dodger lore.
“He’s carved out a really nice Major League career and big moments as a Dodger.”
Muncy is firmly in second place in L.A. Dodgers history with 234 career home runs, which is also fifth all-time in franchise history. Eric Karros is the leader in Los Angles franchise history with 270 homers. Duke Snider’s 389 home runs are most in overall Dodgers history.
Muncy’s 228th career home run with the Dodgers moved him into a tie with Ron Cey, which he said was a meaningful accomplishment.
Muncy signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers on April 27, 2017, after he was designated for assignment and later released by the Oakland Athletics during Spring Training that same year.
He burst onto the scene after being called up in 2018, hitting 20 home runs in 183 at-bats and becoming the fastest player in Dodgers history to reach that mark. Muncy’s 35 home runs that season led the Dodgers and ranked fifth in the National League.
By 2019, Muncy had earned his first All-Star selection and won his first World Series title the following season.
There was a dip in production beginning in 2022, but he has proven indispensable since 2024 while helping the Dodgers win two additional championships.
The 35-year-old is having one of his best seasons in recent memory, not only on the field but also in terms of his health.
Muncy’s batting average and slugging percentage have reached levels not seen since 2018 and 2019. He has also played in more than 100 games for the first time since 2023.

One of Muncy’s latest achievements was passing Karros for the most home runs in Dodger Stadium history. Moreover, he recently reached 10 years of Major League service time as well.
